To give you a picture of the communities and individuals impacted by Justice’s policies and programs, recent initiatives include:
Here are some of our projects:
- Web Tools: visitors to our divorce and separation web content can easily click on an escape key that takes them back to a generic webpage and clears their cache, shielding the information from another person.
- Languages: translating key core policy documents and social media messaging to Indigenous and other languages than English and French to show respect and better reach.
- Advisors: Bringing in Indigenous Elders, a consultant and a filmmaker to provide advice for a youth engagement video project by, for and about Indigenous youth and their aspirations for the future. We needed to build trust and safety so that could do so in their own words and using their own images.
- Accessibility: Canada’s Criminal Code and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms are accessible in digital braille and prominently featured online.
- Tailoring: messages must speak to survivors of violence and discrimination, as well as their families, showing respect and compassion.
- Supporting: crisis line numbers and trigger warnings are included when our content is on sensitive topics and we know there are people hurting.
- Investing: the time and funds so that our Medical Assistance and Dying policy information was in straightforward language and designed to meet the needs of those with cognitive disabilities.
- Recruiting, Retaining, Promoting: our Branch HR policy sets out our commitment to diverse and inclusive human resources practices and managers receive training and support to hire and support employment equity and employment equity-seeking groups. I work with my team to create, support and foster an inclusive workplace where equity, diversity of thought and of people are recognized.
